Custom jewelry how to, a users guide
This article was in response to interest and inquiries about how custom work is handled.
Everyone has their own variations on this, but the following is a pretty detailed account of how things work here at Vrooman designs. There is also additional information on the matter on our website at:

How my custom process work s at Vrooman Designs in Asheville North Carolina:
1) arrange time for free consultation. This can be done in person at our downtown Asheville gallery, or via phone.
2) at the consultation, we will begin to clarify the nature of the project; “we’re looking for an engagement ring, but don’t really have a clear idea have a look except that we want our birthstones”.
3) I’ll ask a lot of clarifying questions like:
• Stones are no stones?
• do you have a stone you want to use, or do you need me to provide one?
• what kind of metal ( or metals) do you like?
• time frame, price range, etc
4) at this point, I’ll usually do a few rough sketches. If we’re at the gallery, I’ll use the inventory in the case to show you examples of texture, scales, metals or techniques etc. if we’re on the phone, I’ll use the website for the same purpose.
5) typically by the end of that session, I have a pretty clear idea of the direction we’re heading in. I’ll usually take a week or so more or less to formulate prices and source materials if necessary.
6) I’ll email you a recap of our conversation, drawings of the ring with notations about size, dimensions, materials etc. Prices and time frames will be established as well.
7) assuming everything’s in order, I’ll take a 50% deposit at this point and get the job into the lineup.
8) Time frames typically run 4 to 8 weeks depending. I’m available for questions or concerns for the duration, and will check in periodically with updates.
9) on completion of the work, balance will be collected and piece will be either mailed or arrangements made for pickup at gallery.
10) on rings, any size adjustment beyond the original specs is free of charge within the first year. I put a lot of work into every custom piece. It’s very important to me that you love your new piece, and I’ll work very hard to make sure that any needs or concerns you have are met!)
